Affiliate products are an effective, simple way to monetize your blog, especially if you use the products yourself. There is nothing easier to spread the word about a product that makes your life easier.
Think about it. If you buy something and you hate it. Who do you tell? Everyone.
You love it. Who do you tell? That’s right. Everyone.
The great thing about an affiliate program is you get PAID to spread the word about a product you love.
That doesn’t happen too often in the real world. More times than not, if you see someone singing the praises about a product online – it’s an affiliate product.
The creator of the product will sometimes offer certain affiliates discounts as well.
So if you are interested in helping solve an issue for your readers, getting them a great deal on a product, and making a little extra cha-ching in the process, affiliate programs are the way to go.
Here is a list of 15 ways you can promote affiliate products on your blog and how you can implement them.
1. Write a Review Post
You can approach this from a few different angles. One, you can write the company and simply ask them if they are interested in your providing review of their product for their readers. Two, you can purchase it on your own simply because you wanted to try it and use it personally. Because you loved it, you can approach the company and tell them your experience and what you’d like to do. You can even ask if they will provide the product as a giveaway for one lucky reader making the post a sponsored post instead.2. Write a “How To” or Tutorial Post
Is there something your friends and family come to you to ask you how to do? Or your readers? Or have you figured out how to do something really well and shared it with others and had a great response? Chances are you have the knowledge to create a tutorial or “how to” post. For example, let’s take the topic of how to start blog. You will need a server to host the blog on. Most hosting companies have affiliate programs. When you write your tutorial post and include any references to a server, include your affiliate link in the post. Take a look at this example: HOW-TO Post: How To Start A Blog.
3. Write a “Where To” Post
There are websites that offer “round ups” of information, like the best places to buy the best collection of time saving books for busy moms. You could break this down into categories like entertainment, finances, and child care. Most authors who have self published works have affiliate programs you can join. This would be a fantastic compilation to offer your readers if you are in that niche.
Even if you aren’t, there are affiliate book programs out there in your market.
You can check affiliate hosts like eJunkie and others for affiliate program lists you can join that cover your topics of interest.
4. Add Affiliate Banners On Your Site
Add affiliate banners on your site either with sidebar or footer ads. If you go to this link you can see a sidebar ad for my HIP Media Kits. Incidentally, I have an affiliate program for these awesome documents. You could set up an ad just like it and earn an affiliate commission.5. Link the products at the end of your content
In the closing of a blog post, you can have a call to action paragraph that includes affiliate products. Give the reader something they can use and want to read. Let them know how they can use the information to help. Then offer an affiliate product that is complimentary to take them one step further6. Create a “Tools I Use” page
You can create a static page on your blog that has a list of all your affiliate products you endorse and have them linked to your affiliate ID. Anytime someone clicks on them, you will get credit from any resulting sales. You can even include any current coupon codes to help the customer get a deal on the product or service.7. Include them in your email newsletters
You can put affiliate links and banner ads that are linked in newsletter templates. But don’t just send out email fishing for affiliate sales. Offer products that are relevant to your email topic. Otherwise, you’re spamming your readers and could get caught in a server spam folder. And that’s a mess you really don’t want to try and clean up.8. Link the products in your email signature
You’ve been blogging long enough to know you want to monetize so you’re not just a hobby blogger. If you are taking the endeavor seriously, you need to have a professional email signature. Take this opportunity to link your most favorite productivity tool that’s an affiliate product to your email signature. Include a quote on how the product has revolutionized your process.9. Link the products in your e-book
I have this blogger friend who has an eBook on zero waste cooking. One of her cooking practices is making fermented foods. In her eBook she used her Amazon affiliate code for a crock fermenter in case readers would like to purchase one for themselves.10. Create a deals page
If you have current coupon codes for the affiliate products you endorse, create a deals page that lists all codes and have them linked to your affiliate ID.11. Create a Case Study
You can create a detailed post of the results you got (and how you got it) from the affiliate product you’re promoting. For example, a product helped you triple your traffic after several weeks or months. You can then create a “case study” post and show them how your affiliate product helped you increase your traffic.12. Make a video
Sometimes it’s easier to make your point with videos, so don’t forget to experiment with creating videos as well! You can include like a “product review” video on your post.Youtube is a great way to promote affiliate products as well. The traffic a video produces is impressive, even on sites such as Facebook. You can get more traffic from a video than a status update. When you add affiliate links to the description bar you’ve just monetized your video. You can make how to videos for a process, review product videos, and even lifestyle resource videos.
13. Do a giveaway
This option ties back into the ‘write a review post’ in the number one spot. But, if YOU giveaway the item instead of the company then it’s not a sponsored post.14. Show Off On Social Media
You’ve just used this great new healthy lifestyle product after your workout. Take a pic of you in your gear, smiling, and holding the product. Add some text, effective hashtags, your affiliate link, and you’re in business. Post this to all your social media networks. You can even link back to a review post if it’s already written so they have further information to make an informed decision.15. Offer discounts
If you are a service-based business like me, you can offer a discount on your services if a reader signs up with an affiliate you endorse. The ways to make money with an affiliate product are only limited by your own creativity. Your pitch can be as unique as you are. As long as your reader is compelled to action use what works. Just don’t forget your disclosure page.
