I'm A Celebrity 2016: Fans blast bosses for being 'cruel' to animals in Bushtucker Trial

The Bushtucker Trial, which sees celebs taking on often stomach-churning challenges to win food, saw Martin, 53, and Adam, 28, arrived in the jungle sweet shop.

Joining the show's hosts Ant and Dec in the elaborate set, the pair were told that the first part of the task involved 'holding' critters in their mouths for a time period, 30 seconds.

Many viewers were left fuming with the nature of the challenge, with one user, @megan_daisy, summing up the mood online.

She wrote: 'Sorry but I really don't understand how I'm A Celeb gets away with some of the s*** they put animals through for entertainment.'

Another, @critchq, blasted: 'What kind of sick moron comes up with half this s*** on I'm A Celeb. It's awful and cruel to animals.'

Other fans stood by the show, but did question the bosses on their use of animals in the tasks.

'I like I'm A Celeb but some of the trials are cruel to animals. FYI bugs = animals,' wrote one viewer.

And @ChloeHiddlestone echoed those sentiments, tweeting: 'What kind of sicko came up with I'm A Celeb, let's make them all eat animals and do disgusting trials for food wtf... good tho.'

Clearly unimpressed with having to hold a struggling animal in his mouth, Martin whined: 'You're joking... hold in your mouth.'

The challenge saw Adam and Martin go through four rounds to win the camp food.
Round one saw them choosing between 10 cockroaches and a stick insect to pop in their mouths.

A second had Martin holding a Yabby (an Australian freshwater crustacean) in his mouth, while Adam held a struggling king cricket in his.

As Adam picked, he chose to face his phobia and chose the spider to hold in his mouth - despite his arachnophobia.

Sat breathing heavily with the animals legs poking out of his mouth, Adam looked as though he was close to tears but he managed to snag two stars for camp – and taking things in his stride Martin won another two with his critter.

Though things took a turn for the stomach-churning, as Dec brought a gumball machine to their attention - filled with fish eyes.

Squeezing the fish eyes till they burst in their mouths, the two had to fill a container with liquid till it filled to a red line.

Adam also completed the fish eye challenge and sat back down with Martin, though the pair were left aghast when they were told they could claim star number 11 by downing the shots.

Downing their shots they whooped in delight, the pair left the task with smiles on their faces; with the duo receiving a hero's welcome when they marched into the camp triumphantly.
