There are a lot of mistakes rooftop solar installers make, especially if
they aren't honest and ethical. Here are some things to watch for:
1. Poor installation practices -- missing rafters and inadequate safety procedures.
2. Improperly trained employees.
3. Making the system much too big, and putting panels in the shade.
4. Overestimating the system output or monetary savings by fudging the inputs in the design software.
5. Poor explanations of the contract terms and warranty.
Hopefully, you'll use these particular warnings as a reason to go with a reputable solar contractor, like Aztec. However, if you're not in Texas or Oklahoma, here are a few things you can easily avoid with a little bit of education:
1. Comparing solar estimates based on total costs rather than the more accurate money to watt basis.
2. Not understanding the solar financing terms and options.
3. Buy immediately without considering it.
4. Hiring an inexperienced or improperly licensed contractor.
5. Installing a system that is undersized for current or near-future needs.
