Homemade DIY Deodorants That Really Work!

Are you suffering from excessive sweating and are worried that it smells a lot? You are not alone. Body odor has been one of the causes of concerns of many. Taking a healthy diet and consuming sufficient amount of water can help a lot in cutting down odor from the body. But, many times doing just this is not enough. The ordinary Deo sprays work quite efficiently but you can’t deny the fact that they contain a lot of additives and aluminum. Hence, here we bring the easiest solution i.e. DIY Deodorant.

For those who are looking for a natural solution, you would see that the options are quite limited. There are various Deo sprays which are available in the market but not all of them are good.
Like other cosmetics, chemical ingredients which are present in the antiperspirants, as well as deodorants, are not good for the skin. Some of these ingredients commonly present are:
  • Aluminum– This is one ingredient which is used in most of the per spirants and deodorants that are available in the market. It is a metal that can be a cause of breast cancer and Alzheimer’s diseases.
  • Parabens- It is a synthetic preservative which is found in a lot of skincare products. The biggest issue with this chemical is that it disturbs the natural hormonal balance. It can cause birth defects as well as organ toxicity.
  • Propylene Glycol– It is a petroleum- based ingredient. It is capable of causing damage to the heart, liver, and even the nervous system.
  • Triclosan- This chemical has also been classified as a pesticide by FDA

Homemade DIY Deodorants That Really Works

Instead of rushing to cosmetic artificial deodorants available in the market that are harmful to the skin, it is better to use natural based deodorants. Although there are some natural deodorants available in the market, they can be very expensive. Have you ever considered preparing natural deodorants at home? Yes, it is possible to make simple natural based deodorants that are completely safe on the skin.

1. DIY Effective Natural Deodorant

Ingredients –

  • Baking soda
  • Arrowroot powder/ Non-GMO corn starch
  • Coconut oil
  • Essential oils like patchouli, tea tree, lavender, rosemary, bergamot oil, etc.

How to Make It?

  • Take half a cup of baking soda and half a cup of cornstarch (you can also use arrowroot powder)
  • Add some coconut oil to it till it gets moist and store it in a jar
  • You can also add some essential oil to it if you want to add fragrance to it.

How to Use This DIY Deodorant?

Take a small quantity in your hands and rub it over the armpits with the help of your fingertips. Do not use too much quantity as it might stain the clothes.

According to some people, baking soda is excessively alkaline for the skin and can cause itching and irritation too. In case any such thing happens to you, you may decrease the quantity of baking soda by half and add that much more corn-starch.

2. Baking Soda Free Solid DIY Deodorant

Some people have a sensitive skin and develop redness with baking soda. If you have a sensitive and irritated skin, then you should go for the soda free option.

Ingredients –

  • 30 grams of coconut oil
  • 20 grams of shea butter
  • 10 grams of carrier oil which can be castor oil, almond oil, avocado oil, etc.
  • 10 grams of beeswax
  • 15 grams of arrowroot powder
  • 15 grams of food grade diatomaceous earth
  • 1 Vitamin E Capsule
  • 10 drops essential oil of your choice

How to Make It?

Just melt the shea butter, coconut oil, and beeswax and carrier oil together. In case you have a boiler, you may use it for melting all the ingredients. You can also pour all the ingredients in a jar and place it in boiling water. After this melt, all the ingredients over low heat and occasionally stir them if required. Beeswax takes a very long time to melt but you need to be patient.

Remove it from the heat and once beeswax melts and you have stirred it, remove it from heat and let it cool down for some time.

Add Vitamin E, diatomaceous earth and essential oil to it. Before the mixture becomes hard and starts solidifying, mix all the remaining ingredients. Just break the Vitamin E capsule for adding it to the mixture. Whisk all these ingredients and make sure that each ingredient is distributed evenly.

In case you have not tested essential oil ever before on your skin, then just apply a few drops on your underarm and wait for some time to see if it irritates your skin. If it does, you should probably try some other essential oil and if it does not you may go ahead with that.

Once the mix is ready to pour it into a jar, the mixture will solidify soon. Once you finally whisk all the ingredients, put it in a jar. You may just rub it on your fingers and apply it on the underarms as required.

In case you feel comfortable with the roll in stick form, you may pour it into Popsicle molds and freeze it for one hour. Wrap the sticks in a wax paper or a parchment paper and then store them.

3. Spray Deodorant

Ingredients –

  • 4 ounces Magnesium oil
  • 10 to 15 drops essential oil of your choice

How to Make It?

You may buy magnesium oil from the market or you can also make it at home. For making it at home, you just need to boil half cup distilled water. Pour it over magnesium chloride in a heat safe bowl. Stir all the ingredients and let it cool.

How to Use This DIY Deodorant?

You may use any essential oil or you may even experiment by mixing 2-3 of them. Just stir 10-15 drops essential oil on magnesium oil. You should first test a couple of drops of the mix on the skin to know if it irritates your armpits. In case it irritates the skin, just dilute it with some water.

You can store it in a spray bottle that you like. Just look for a bottle which spritzes the underarms and try to ignore the ones which spray a lot of deodorants. The mixture does not need to be stored in some particular environment.

These are some of the easiest ways of preparing DIY deodorant at home. They are natural and made of natural ingredients and thus you do not need to worry about any harm being caused to your skin. So what are you waiting for? Say goodbye to those artificial deodorants and start making your own natural based deodorants at home
