Move Over Tesla, Europe's Building Its Own Battery Gigafactories

Daimler is building a half a billion euros gigafactory for electric car batteries, and analysts predict battery prices will lower by 43% by 2021, due to a 2.7 times rise in battery production worldwide. Global battery-making capacity is set to more than double by 2021, reaching 278 gigawatt-hours, up from about 103 gigawatt-hours now. Some predict this fall in battery prices will make electric versions of the gasoline cars cheaper by 2023, leading to a rapid extinction of the gas powered cars, especially since by then 350 mile range electric cars will be the norm, and there will be far more charging stations and far faster charging times.
