On the other hand, if we continue working with the injured body part, it will cause unnecessary strain, aching and inflammation. Moreover, it will take more time to heal. You can seek help of your near ones for any kind of physical activity and avoid using the injured area.

2. Elevation

The swelling due to an injury is mainly caused due to inadequate blood circulation. Elevating the hands, legs or the affected body parts can help in increasing proper blood circulation and reducing swelling. Elevation also throws out toxins and aids in quick healing process.


You can make use of pillows for elevating your hands and legs. Slings can also be used for elevating arms and legs.

3. Compression

4. Epsom Salt Soak

In order to reduce swelling, pain and discomfort, Epsom salt can be effectively used. Loaded with magnesium sulphate, Epsom salt helps in facilitating blood circulation to the injured areas as well. It offers a greater degree of relaxation to the stressed and aching muscles. Make use of Epsom salt as home remedies for swelling due to injury.


Add sufficient quantity of Epsom salt to a bucket of warm water. Soak your injured area in the solution for 10-15 minutes. Keep repeating this process twice or thrice a week.


If your shoulder or thigh is injured or aching, then it is preferable to go for an Epsom salt bath. Add half cup of Epsom salt to your bathtub filled with warm water and soak your body in it for 10-15 minutes. It will provide you necessary relief to the whole body, including the affected area.

This treatment has been used since centuries. The advantages of warm oil massage for reducing pain and swelling, relaxes the aching muscles and ensured proper blood circulation.


For best results, use mustard oil and warm it for some time. Massage the affected area with the warm oil for 10-15 minutes. Repeat this process twice a day.

6. Ginger

Surprisingly, ginger is another natural remedy for reducing pain and swelling. Many people are not aware of this advantage of ginger. Since ginger is fortified with anti-inflammatory and pain-reducing properties named as gingerol, it relaxes muscle pain. It also promoted blood circulation in the body, including the injured areas.


You will have to prepare a solution comprising of warm water, 2-3 ginger slices, and little honey into it. Drink this ginger tea twice or thrice a day.


Similarly, ginger oil can be applied and massaged on the affected area for 5-10 minutes till the swelling reduces. You can even mix ginger oil with other essential oils such as olive oil or mustard oil for additional comfort.

7. Turmeric

Turmeric can be used effectively for relieving a person from swelling and discomfort resulting out of injuries. Turmeric is rich in anti-oxidation and anti-inflammatory properties due to the essential ingredient curcumin contained in it.


You can apply a paste consisting of coconut oil and turmeric powder on the affected area. Wash it off when it dries and keep repeating twice or thrice a day. Use warm water for rinsing purpose.


Similarly, you can also prepare a drink of milk, turmeric powder and honey. Warm the milk, add one teaspoon of turmeric powder and few dashes of honey for sweetening. Drink it regularly to quickly heal the injury.

8. Apple Cider Vinegar

Another natural remedy for reducing swelling and pain is apple cider vinegar that is available in general stores. It is rich in anti-inflammatory elements. It is also comprised of essential minerals such as potassium, calcium for providing comfort to the affected areas.


Add one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in warm water and drink the solution twice a day. It heals internally.


Alternatively, add one or two spoons of apple cider vinegar to warm water and soak a soft towel into the mixture. Cover the affected area with the soaked towel for at least 5-10 minutes. Repeat it twice or thrice a day.
